Seriously injured motorcyclist wins £800,000 settlement with support from Sintons
A motorcyclist who suffered a catalogue of serious injuries in a collision with a car received a compensation package of £800,000 with support from the specialist personal injury team at law firm Sintons.
The rider was left with life-changing injuries after the incident, where he was riding at 30mph when a car pulled out in front of him, throwing him under the car, which then drove over him.
He was left with extensive abdominal injuries and lacerations to his liver, kidney and bowel, leaving him in hospital for a number of months afterwards, including over two months in intensive care. The man also had to endure 28 operations.
Although the incident happened in October 2009, the effects are still felt to this day, having been left with no stomach muscles and an abdominal wall made of mesh. He has been registered as disabled and struggles with everyday life.
He approached the specialist personal injury team at Sintons after the accident to pursue a claim in order to address his ongoing needs. The team, one of the leaders in its field in the North of England, is known for its commitment to clients and the exceptional personal service it provides. The most recent edition of Legal 500 hailed them for being “outstanding…diligent and client focused…unmatched in the region”.
Ian Burns, Associate in Sintons’ personal injury team who has over 20 years’ experience in handling claims, secured the settlement of £800,000 for the claimant.
The motorcyclist said: “My life has been severely affected as a result of what happened. I have had to spend months in hospital, with 28 theatre trips, and the effects will be felt for the rest of my life. I have been left with no stomach muscles but use a custom-made external skin that allows me to function. The skins will be required for the rest of my life and the replacement costs made up a significant portion of my settlement.
“I have been very happy with the service I received from Sintons and Ian in particular. I have recommended the firm to others in relation to a variety of other matters.”
Phil Davison, head of the claimant personal injury department at Sintons, said: “The whole team at Sintons is committed to fighting hard on behalf of our clients to get the best possible outcome for them and their families. This motorcyclist has suffered very serious and life-changing injuries in a collision which was not his fault. The settlement Ian has secured will ensure that he continues to receive the specialist treatment and rehabilitation that he will need throughout his life.
“We are very pleased that he was happy with the service we have provided and that we were able to ensure that he has obtained the help and support that he needs for the future.”
