Corporate and commercial capability praised by Legal 500 2018


The corporate and commercial team at Sintons has won further praise for its work, with Legal 500 hailing its breadth of offering and depth of expertise.

The specialist team, which handles many of the most significant deals in the North East and beyond, is acknowledged for its niche in acting for SMEs, owner-managed businesses and privately-held corporates on mergers and acquisitions, buyouts, private equity and other corporate finance transactions.

Karen Simms, head of corporate and commercial, was named as one of the leading lawyers in the North, in recognition of her wide-ranging specialism in energy, waste, healthcare and leisure. Senior associates Emma Pern and Lucy Cook are named as next generation lawyers for their outstanding capability and future potential.

Partners Matt Collen, Adrian Dye and Christopher Welch are all also recommended by Legal 500 for their involvement in major North East deals, including the latest hotel acquisition by Gainford Group and the sale of Pennine Windows.

The department has seen significant growth in recent months, underpinned by a number of strategic new appointments to the team, including those of Lucy Cook and Luke Philpott, They have spearheaded the further development of Sintons’ specialist tech and startup offering, which has seen the firm named as legal partner of TusPark Newcastle and premium sponsor of Newcastle Startup Week.

Sintons are further recommended for their specialist advice to charities, with Legal 500 praising the team’s capability and its strength in the education, medical research and public work sectors, alongside its niche specialism in advising religious institutions.
