Time Limits

The general time limit for submitting an application to the CICA is 2 years from the date of the incident.

Though, there are some exclusions to the rule including:

Minors

Where an applicant was a minor on the date of the incident, in the case where an incident is reported to the police before the applicant’s 18th birthday, the application must be submitted within the period ending on their 20th birthday.

In the case where an incident is reported to the police on or after the applicant’s 18th birthday, the application must be submitted within 2 years after the date of the first report to the police.

Exceptional circumstances

The CICA may extend the time period for submitting a claim where:

They are satisfied that due to exceptional circumstances the applicant could not have submitted an application sooner; and

The evidence submitted in support of the application means that it can be resolved without further extensive enquires.

All personal injury claims are pursued on a No Win No Fee basis so you can rest assured that there is no financial risk.
