Attending a pain management programme can help to reduce the disability and distress caused by chronic pain by teaching physical, psychological and practical techniques to improve quality of life. There are also a number of voluntary organisations and self-help groups who can provide practical advice and assistance including the British Pain Society, the Chronic Pain Support Group and Pain Concern.
Where treatment does not reduce or eliminate symptoms of chronic pain, the long term effects can be extremely disabling. Accordingly the question of chronic pain needs to be fully investigated to ensure that maximum compensation is recovered.
