The Fourth and Fifth EU Motor Insurance Directives apply to road traffic accidents which occur in countries which are members of the European Union. These allow you to bring a claim in the UK against a foreign driver responsible for any accident in which you sustained personal injury. Special rules apply to claims of this nature and accordingly you should seek advice from a solicitor specialising in personal injury compensation.
Where the other driver involved in an accident abroad is also a UK resident it should be possible to pursue a claim for personal injury compensation in the UK Courts.
