Katie joined Sintons in October 2022 and is a Senior Associate in the wills, trusts and estates department. She has over 10 years’ experience of advising clients from a broad range of backgrounds, specialising in wills, trusts, inheritance tax planning and incapacity planning. Her clients range from entrepreneurs to the very elderly, from lottery winners to landed estate owners, and from corporate trustees to cross-border clients.

Katie believes in getting to know her clients and understanding their priorities, then tailoring her advice to achieve their goals by providing practical solutions.


  • Katie studied law at the University of Cambridge, gaining first class degrees there for both her undergraduate law degree and her Masters in Law
  • Katie has practised exclusively in private client law since qualifying in 2012 and worked for over 10 years at an international law firm
  • Experienced in complex estate and tax planning, Katie specialises in wills, powers of attorney and advance decisions. She has particular expertise in relation to inheritance tax planning both during the client’s lifetime and after their death
  • Katie is also a highly experienced trusts lawyer and regularly advises individuals and trustees in relation to the creation of various types of trust; moving assets into and out of trust; administration and compliance matters; and bringing trusts to an end, as well as providing associated tax advice
  • Katie is a fully qualified Trust and Estate Practitioner having completed the STEP Diploma, recognised worldwide as a mark of excellence in this area of law. She received one of only two distinctions awarded across the country for her Wills and Administration of Estates exam
  • Katie’s STEP qualification included an optional exam in UK Tax for International Clients covering domicile, tax residence, and estate and tax planning for clients with connections with more than one country, such as dual citizenship, or family or property in England and other countries. Katie has advised clients with interests in Scotland, France, Spain, Norway, the USA and the UAE, among others
  • Having grown up in the North East, Katie has always worked in Newcastle and is committed to ensuring the region has access to the highest quality advice provided in an accessible way
  • The Wills, Trusts & Probate Team won Private Client Team of the Year at the 2019 Northern Law Awards and was shortlisted for Private Client Team of the year in the Legal 500’s Northern Powerhouse Awards 2023.  In 2023, the team was given a top tier ranking by Chambers & Partners.


Katie was listed as a key individual in the Legal 500 2024 Guide.

Outside of work, Katie loves music and sings in a choir. She is also in a book group, but most of her spare time is spent outside with her husband and two young sons.
