A group of trainee lawyers from a Newcastle law firm have committed to taking on an annual challenge to raise money for charity, and are following last year’s cycling feat by pledging to climb the Three Peaks.
The young lawyers from Sintons last year raised over £3,000 through the 150-mile Coast to Coast cycle challenge, with some of the group never having ridden a bike prior to their training for the event.
This year, the group – which comprises six trainee solicitors and two solicitor apprentices – are bidding to take on the Three Peaks challenge, by climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon, a combined height of 3,408 metres.
They will be raising money for Daft as a Brush Cancer Care, Sintons’ staff charity, for which the firm is bidding to raise £25,000 to fund the purchase of a new ambulance.
The trainee group have set a target to collectively raise £2,000, which they hope to achieve through sponsorship for the Three Peaks challenge and other activities including bake sales, firm-wide games of bingo and dress down days.
The group – trainees Tessa Carr, Ed Forshaw, Andrew Noble, Laura Tennet, Jonathan Tutu, Emelie Vardon and apprentices Leah Greenwell and Nathan Johnson – are aiming to complete the Three Peaks in May, and have launched a fundraising page to help gather donations.
Laura Tennet said: “Last year’s Coast to Coast was a huge challenge for me personally, as I had never ridden a bike before. While it was really tough, it was a great experience and a genuinely brilliant opportunity for us trainees to bond as a group.
“We are a really tight group, and I think a lot of that comes not just from working together, but also from things like these challenges. We’re looking forward to the Three Peaks, but I’m under no illusions this will be every bit as tough as last year!”
