Sintons staff set for Great North Run
Ten people from the law firm are running in Sunday’s half marathon for an array of good causes, following months of training for the iconic Newcastle to South Shields event.
Furthermore, Iona Sweeney is attending the exclusive pre-Great North Run press conference through her role as club secretary of Gateshead Harriers. The event will be attended by many of the elite athletes, including Sir Mo Farah, who is bidding for a record sixth consecutive success.
Iona – also a registered UK Athletics official who recently officiated at the World Transplant Games – is a long-standing volunteer for the Harriers and last year received the Sport Newcastle Unsung Hero award for her work with the club, particularly with disabled athletes.
Mark Quigley, managing partner of Sintons, said: “The Great North Run is an iconic North East event and one of the biggest annual occasions in the regional and national sporting calendar. We are delighted that so many of our team at Sintons have committed to taking part, and will collectively raise a very significant sum of money for a number of vital charities. We wish them luck with their efforts in completing the 13.1 mile route.
“It is also excellent that Iona has been invited to attend the pre-event press conference alongside so many internationally-successful athletes. Iona has dedicated so much of her time to Gateshead Harriers and we are very pleased to have been able to support her on several occasions through assigning the hours she spends on voluntary activities during the working day to CSR time – this is something we are very proud to offer our staff who, such as Iona, do such valuable and indeed vital work in the local community.”
