Sintons is proud to support this year’s Major Trauma Awareness Week, run by national charity Day One Trauma Support, which this year carries the powerful message: “I lost my life when I didn’t die.”

The 2026 campaign shines a light on what happens after the emergency is over. A serious injury – such as a head or spinal injury, or the loss of a limb – can change everything a person once took for granted: how they move, work, communicate and live. Yet, as Day One highlights, only 1 in 10 survivors of life-changing injury currently get the full support they need to rebuild their lives.

The campaign features moving personal stories from survivors including Lucie, Paul, Sam, Rachel, Rob and Emma, each describing a different side of life after major trauma – from the physical and psychological toll, to the long road back to independence, identity and purpose. As Day One puts it, surviving isn’t the end of the story; often, it’s about learning how to live a different life.

Sintons has long recognised the vital role that organisations like Day One play in supporting people and families in the aftermath of catastrophic injury – work that goes far beyond the hospital ward, addressing the practical, emotional, financial and legal challenges survivors face for months and years afterwards.

Alastair Elliot, Partner at Sintons, said:

At Sintons, our work with clients who have suffered life-changing injuries means we see first-hand how much of the recovery journey happens long after the initial emergency – and how much of a difference the right support can make. We are committed to continuing to stand alongside Day One Trauma Support and to help make sure that no one has to face major trauma alone.
