Meet the Wills, Trusts & Estates Team with Ellie Stannard

SintonsCourt of Protection Team provides legal services to people affected by a lack of mental capacity, which may mean that they lack the ability to make decisions about their own finances, health and welfare. The newest member of the team is Ellie Stannard, who joined the firm as a paralegal in March 2024.

We caught up with Ellie to find out more about her and her role.

Tell us about your career to date.

I graduated from Northumbria University’s Law School in July 2023 with a first class degree. I’d already secured a training contract offer from Sintons to begin in September 2025 and I had expressed a strong interest in working in Court of Protection, so I was keen to take up Sintons’ offer of the opportunity to be a paralegal in the team, before starting my training contract.

What does your role here involve?

It’s difficult to capture everything the Court of Protection Team does on a day-to-day basis but, essentially, we manage the property and affairs of clients who have lost the mental capacity to do so alone. As this is such a broad area, my work can range from drafting court applications and arranging capacity assessments, to planning holidays and going car shopping for clients. I don’t believe it’s an area you could ever get bored in!

What attracted you to the role and what have you enjoyed the most about it?

The Sintons employees I knew prior to joining always sang the firm’s praises, with major emphasis on the trust the firm puts in its employees to manage their own workload and get the job done effectively. This element of freedom and trust played a huge part for me in selecting a firm, as I believe the right balance of independence and support is something that can create a healthy work environment.

The award-winning team is one of the most highly-rated in the North of England. What are the advantages of being part of it?

The team I have joined is such a close-knit, supportive team, and I can honestly say they have been so welcoming towards me since joining Sintons. My supervisor is amazing and is very supportive in terms of giving me my own workload and supporting me with managing it.

The files we work on are all very much a team effort. There is no feeling of competitiveness between one another as we all want the same outcome and make decisions based on the client’s best interests.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love to travel. I spent the months following graduation backpacking across South East Asia and it was an amazing experience. When at home though, I enjoy going to the gym, as I am a huge foodie so this allows me to eat what I want and stay healthy!
