Can you tell us a bit about your career to date?
I have been working in the legal profession for 14 years; seven of those as a qualified solicitor at Sintons, having joined Sintons’ dispute resolution team in 2018 immediately upon qualification. In the seven years before that, I worked at law firms in the North West, mostly in roles related to dispute resolution and litigation. Since joining Sintons, I have advised and represented a range of healthcare providers spanning a broad spectrum of disputes, including partnership disputes, claims relating to the receipt and distribution of NHS DES funding, Judicial Review of the decisions of public bodies, and defending the decisions of healthcare professionals.
I am very proud to have been promoted to associate in April 2023.
What attracted you to join Sintons?
After studying at Durham University, the idea of returning to the North East always appealed to me. Sintons in particular attracted me because of its strong reputation and its collaborative culture. Being a part of this team has allowed me to expand my professional network, develop specialist skills in interesting areas of law, and work with some exceptionally talented individuals.
What does your role involve?
I aim to take a commercially focused approach and to deliver pragmatic advice and robust representation. I have been described by King’s Counsel as ‘assiduous’, ‘level-headed’ and ‘insightful’.
What have been your personal highlights to date, both personal and professional?
One of the most rewarding moments in my career was the opportunity to assist a partner in an appeal to the UK Supreme Court. The appeal involved deeply emotive and complex issues, with strong arguments on both sides and national press coverage. Guiding our client through the intricacies of the appeals process was a professional challenge and a personal privilege. Being part of a team that helped set a legal precedent at the highest level of the judiciary was an experience I will always value.
What are your interests outside of work?
I have a passion for rugby, and I can be found at Durham City Rugby Club most weekends. I am also qualified with PADI as a Rescue Diver, and I enjoy exploring other countries with my wife and 2 boys.
