Sintons’ Magnificent Seven are getting back on their bikes to raise yet more vital funds for a charity which supports patients and families who have been affected by major trauma.
And this year, Sintons will be joined by a team of cyclists from Parklane Plowden Chambers.
The team of seven cyclists from Sintons and those from Parklane Plowden Chambers are committing to ride a minimum of 75 miles each, during the first week of July in support of Day One.
The 75 Miles in July challenge marks the equivalent distance between Leeds Major Trauma Centre – where Day One is based – and Aintree Major Trauma Centre, which takes patients from across Cheshire and Merseyside, and from where the charity will also be delivering its services from July 2021.
The latest fundraising initiative – through which Sintons and Parklane Plowden Chambers, working alongside fellow law firms Irwin Mitchell and Leigh Day, are collectively targeting a £10,000 sponsorship total – comes after Sintons’ Magnificent Seven raised hundreds of pounds for Day One last year through its completion of the gruelling Seven Marathons in Seven Days, during which every team member rode a minimum of 26.2 miles every day for seven consecutive days.
Day One supports patients and families affected by major trauma in partnership with trauma clinicians, NHS Trusts and other linked organisations, operating out of Leeds General Infirmary. It was established in 2014 by patients and staff to address the complex financial, legal and emotional challenges that can arise from such circumstances, not just for the injured individual but also their immediate family.
Day One has supported hundreds of people and their families over the past seven years who have been admitted to the Major Trauma Centre. It is estimated to cost around £330 per day to run its services, and fundraising is a vital income stream.
Sintons’ specialist neurotrauma and serious injury teams, who work nationally from the law firm’s offices in Newcastle and York, have a strong relationship with Day One and are part of its panel of legal advisors.
Now, to further support its work, the Magnificent Seven – facilities assistant Simon Anderson, head of general personal injury Phil Davison, IT specialist Michael Kealy, head of neurotrauma Andrew McGowan, neurotrauma solicitor Hannah Fitzpatrick, head of marketing David Pritchard and head of personal injury Mark Quigley – are preparing to take on their latest challenge on behalf of Day One, to help sustain its vital work over an even greater geographical area.
“We’ve seen first-hand how vital the work of Day One is to families whose loved ones are in Leeds Major Trauma Centre, and for whom the support and guidance of the Day One team, during some of the most difficult and traumatic times they have probably ever faced, is absolutely invaluable,” says Phil Davison.
“It is simply fantastic news that this is now being expanded into Aintree Major Trauma Centre, for the benefit of patients and families there too – but their work comes at a cost, and fundraising plays a major role in helping to sustain this. We will always do all we can to assist with this.
“We have a number of keen cyclists at Sintons, and the creation of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ last year to support Day One was a huge boost to us during the height of lockdown and enabled us to take our daily exercise while also raising money for such a valuable cause. The Magnificent Seven are pleased to get back on our bikes again and hope to generate even more vital funds.”
