Cancer survivor joins friends at charity party

More than 20 people gathered with breast cancer survivor Lynn Almond for the event, at which food was dished out and music performances took place.

Mum-of-one Lynne, who works at Sintons Law in Newcastle, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 but looks to have beaten the illness after she finished her treatment and was given a clean bill of health.

“We decided to put the night on because a partner at my firm, Andrew Walker, died of cancer last year,” said paralegal worker Lynne, 49, of Chester Road in Sunderland.

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October last year and since then, Macmillan nurses have given me a great deal of support. Because of all that, Sintons decided that Macmillan should be our charity for the year.”

A total of £400 was raised on the night, held at Lynne’s friend Danielle Elliott’s Grindon Home, with more pounds still rolling in now.

“I’m delighted that the night has gone so well because it’s a charity close to my heart,” added Lynne, who is married to Simon, 48, and mum to Lucy, 15.
