Lucy Milnthorp

2nd Year Trainee Solicitor

I was born in Sunderland and studied my law degree at Newcastle University. I was always certain that I wanted to remain in the North East. I was delighted to be offered a Training Contract with Sintons in my final year of my undergraduate degree. I then went on to study the LPC at Northumbria University.

Whilst studying, I undertook some work experience in various law firms to get an insight into the type of work carried out by solicitors. This confirmed that becoming a solicitor was definitely the career I wanted to pursue. I was drawn to Sintons in particular due to the number of areas of law offered by the firm, which was something that was important to me at the start of my legal career and deciding what area I may want to qualify in once I complete my Training Contract.

I was fortunate enough to be selected for an assessment week at Sintons. Spending those few days in the office made me want to work at Sintons even more as the team were all so friendly and welcoming. I knew that it would be an enjoyable and supportive environment for me to begin my career as a solicitor, as the culture of the firm was something I truly admired and knew I wanted to be a part of. The work that we completed during the week also provided a great insight into working at Sintons and the variety of tasks provided an opportunity to demonstrate different strengths and explore beyond comfort zones.

After being offered the Training Contract, I was assigned a second year trainee as a ‘buddy’ who was able to offer me invaluable guidance and support whilst studying the LPC and also keep me up to date with events at the firm. I was invited to Trainee Socials, which was great to catch up with the trainees and made me feel part of the team before I had even started.

I am delighted to have been welcomed by such a friendly and supportive firm and look forward to my future at Sintons.
