Reports to: Facilities Manager
Purpose of Job: The Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for the effective supervision, coordination and delivery of the firm’s cleaning service. The role combines hands on cleaning duties with day to day leadership, quality control and people management of the cleaning team, ensuring a consistently high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and safety across the office.
Main Activities:
Supervision & Management
- Supervise and lead the cleaning team, ensuring adequate cover is in place at all times.
- Allocate daily duties and priorities, ensuring key and high use areas receive appropriate focus.
- Monitor cleaning standards across the office and take corrective action where required.
- Carry out day to day people management responsibilities, including conducting monthly and performance reviews, escalating formal issues to the Facilities Manager as appropriate.
- Participate directly in the recruitment, induction and onboarding of new cleaning colleagues.
- Identify training needs and ensure cleaning colleagues are competent in the safe and correct use of equipment and materials.
Service Delivery & Quality Control
- Take responsibility for the smooth, efficient and effective delivery of the cleaning service.
- Carry out regular checks to ensure all areas are cleaned to agreed standards and health and safety requirements.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture within the team and ensure compliance at all times.
- Ensure continuity of cleaning services during periods of absence or leave by managing cover arrangements.
Cleaning Duties (Hands On Role)
In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Cleaning Supervisor will carry out cleaning duties as part of the team, including but not limited to:
- Cleaning offices, meeting rooms, toilets, kitchens and communal areas to a high standard.
- Vacuuming carpets and cleaning/mopping hard floor surfaces.
- Emptying bins and removing waste to designated external areas, supporting waste segregation where required.
- Cleaning surfaces, furniture, fixtures, equipment and touchpoints, including screens and associated equipment, cupboards and walls.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of kitchen and refreshment areas, including crockery and storage areas.
Equipment, Stock & Resources
- Monitor cleaning supplies, equipment and materials, ensuring timely ordering and best value for the firm.
- Ensure equipment is used appropriately, safely and economically.
Security & Professional Conduct
- Act as keyholder, ensuring the building is vacated, secured and alarmed at the end of the day, or that appropriate arrangements are in place.
- Project a professional, approachable and customer focused manner to colleagues, clients and visitors at all times.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
- Previous supervisory experience in an office or similar cleaning environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain high standards.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy and able to work with minimal supervision.
