Charles Bell

2nd Year Trainee Solicitor

Being born in the North East and studying here for several years cemented a real sense of pride in my region. I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Newcastle and Northumbria University, and have had a strong desire to work in the region. I chose Sintons because I was aware of their commitment to the region, to CSR, and to their staff.

At undergraduate level, I studied Linguistics and Spanish and was fortunate enough to use skills gained through study in various professional roles whilst at university. I gained a Masters in Professional Translation of European Languages, and it was during the legal study on this course, that I realised that law was the profession I wished to follow. I started studying law at Northumbria University in September 2020, achieving the GDL in September 2021, and the LPC in September 2022.  As I studied the GDL during the pandemic, I completed the course by studying online, and without ever meeting a lecturer or fellow student in person.

In June 2021, I was fortunate to be invited to the Sintons assessment week for prospective trainees. It was here I experienced first-hand the high quality of service given by the firm, as well as the welcoming nature of those within it.  I joined Sintons in September 2022, having had firm support and encouragement throughout my LPC.

Prior to my start, Sintons assigned me a trainee mentor who provided valuable support when I was preparing for my career in law.  This helped me appreciate how the firm was organised, the expectations that the firm might have of me, and I really appreciated the advice and guidance I received.  It facilitated the transition from studying to working life and my first day at work was far less daunting as a result.  The ethos of inclusiveness pervades the firm; I am proud that I work for Sintons.
