The role

We are looking to for an ambitious, self-motivated, highly organised, enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our growing Court of Protection Team. Ideally, we are seeking a lawyer with at least 5 years of experience in handling Court of Protection matters. Of particular interest would be someone who has regularly handled cases involving individuals with acquired brain injuries.

In this role, the successful candidate would be working closely with the firm’s professional deputies, Neurotrauma and Personal Injury Department, clients and their close friends and family, alongside therapists and other professional advisors.

We are looking for someone who can devise and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy and help develop junior members of the team.

Your role will include the following, but additional tasks may be appropriate:

  • Drafting applications to the Court of Protection
  • Advising families regarding lay deputyship applications
  • Drafting complex documents and witness statements
  • Working with brain injured and vulnerable adults and children
  • Leading meetings with clients and professionals, including best interest meetings, and managing complex negotiations
  • Purchase of properties and adapting properties to meet clients’ needs
  • Working collaboratively within large multi-disciplinary teams consisting of doctors, case managers, therapists, and architects
  • Creating detailed budgets, cashflow management and forecasting and accurate record keeping
  • Seeking and implementing independent financial advice
  • Providing litigation support to, both internal and external, Neurotrauma and Personal Injury Solicitors
  • Supervising and developing junior members of the team

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be highly organised and have the ability to multitask and work independently. They should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience of professional deputyship work which includes high value and complex matters. Applicants should have a good knowledge of care funding options, including local authority and NHS funding. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, as well as good attention to detail. They will have a methodical and proactive approach to challenges, as well as the ability to work effectively under pressure.
