Reports to:                 Head of Business Development and Marketing

Purpose of Job:          Responsible for developing and implementing Business Development initiatives that drive the firm’s growth.  This includes creating and executing strategies to build and strengthen relationships with existing and prospective clients and expanding the firm’s market presence by targeting key markets, sectors, clients and internal referrals, in line with our vision and values; Professionalism, Our People, Excellent Client Service and Teamwork.

Main Activities:

  • To assist in the development and delivery of the firm’s and the individual departmental strategic business development plans and ensure that the business development objectives support the delivery of these plans.
  • Work with fee-earners to understand and help to develop cross-selling between departments and or upselling legal services.
  • Support client relationship partners in managing client relationships and in promoting growth in our key sector areas.
  • Assist partners and fee-earners to optimise client relationships and opportunities, for example background research, participating in meetings where appropriate and tracking opportunities.
  • Conduct competitive analysis to identify market positioning, differentiation strategies and potential areas for growth.
  • Assist with responses to department specific tenders and proposals.
  • Develop best practice for tenders/proposals’ support materials, including descriptions of services, key client and matter lists, award summaries etc.
  • Identify, co-ordinate and evaluate speaking opportunities at conferences and seminars and help to develop content.
  • Track business development activities carried out by colleagues across the business.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Business Development and Marketing on the business development approach to maximise business development opportunities.
  • Track and manage client interactions, referrals and business development activities through our CRM system as well as using CRM to target and manage business development campaigns.
  • Stay updated on legal industry trends and business development strategies. Provide updates and insights to the Management Board, partners and fee-earners on developments that may impact the firm’s business.
  • Work with the wider Business Development and Marketing team and Client Experience Manager to seek feedback from clients and internal stakeholders to continually enhance our service and offerings.
  • Manage spend and advise on the best use of the annual business development budget to ensure maximum return on investment of all business development expenditure.
  • Act as a key point of contact and ambassador for the firm.
  • Comply with and uphold the firm’s policies and procedures, such as health and safety, IT, security, email and anti-virus policies and equality and fair treatment.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Expertise in analysing legal market trends, client behaviour, and competitive positioning to drive firm-wide growth.
  • Demonstrable experience of meeting and exceeding performance indicators (KPIs), linked to growth and improving marker share.
  • Previous experience in a legal or professional services environment is preferable. Alternatively, in a business development role in a commercial, service led organisation is also advantageous.
  • Experience of managing and writing tenders and bids.
  • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to engage and persuade stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to identify, develop, and convert business development opportunities.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum of supervision.
  • Enthusiastic, pro-active, persuasive and assertive, demonstrating confidence in all interactions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present clearly, concisely and credibly to partners, fee-earners and clients.
  • Highly organised, with a professional and collaborative approach.
  • Able to build a strong reputation within the firm and consistently deliver excellent client service.
  • Resilient under pressure, with a track record of delivering major projects to completion.
  • Proficient in the use of business development and CRM systems, with the ability to leverage technology to track, manage, and enhance client interactions and business development activities.
